Where is a good place to live for a mathematician among jobs in the City of New York!?

It is difficult to find a place to live for a mathematician who is between jobs in New – York. I'm afraid of violence and I am small. I am a vegetarian who loves food and coffee. My brain needs a peaceful environment. I also do my daily run. I also have friends who can run with me in central park and mingle with coffee. Who can give me some advice where to live in the city.
